In the wake of the completion of the state of the art Nelson Mandela Stadium in Port Elizabeth recently - the first stadium to be completed - another 21st century construction technology is being launched in the city – this time in the housing sector. Imison™ uses ready to assemble, prefabricated Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) panels that have steel columns running through the panels. These panels are then plastered with a super strength, spray-on industrial plaster called Fibrecote™.
The system has several certifications and is also fully bonded (financed) by the banking sector in South Africa – there can hardly be a greater stamp of approval. The main benefits include - construction in a quarter to a third of regular time, superior thermal (temperature) transfer control, complete insulation against rain penetration, 67 percent higher efficiency and stronger than brick/mortar walls. Cracking, damp, high cost and poor thermal insulation associated with brick/mortar construction is eliminated in Imison’s technology.
